Myofascial/Deep Tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the slower strokes and focused pressure are beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). Myofascial Release is used in order to release the restrictions present in connective tissue surrounding organs and muscles in the body and it will help to re-organize and lengthen the tight tissue allowing for better movement and health of the tissue.
Myofascial Release was specifically designed to relax the fascia throughout the whole body. And because tension in fascia can effect and cause pain in other areas, your therapist may treat other areas of the body to positively effect your treatment outcome. For example, your Myofascial Release practitioner may work on the hips and low back to help reduce tension in the neck which in turn can cause headaches. This is the benefit of a whole body approach that makes myofascial release such an effective treatment.
Myofascial Massage therapy has been effective in releasing the cause a number of problems such as:
Muscle pain and spasms
Chronic back and neck pain
Sensations such as numbness and pins and needles
Poor posture and reduced flexibility
At the time of your massage we will discuss your concerns in order to see if a Myofascial/Deep Tissue massage would be beneficial for you.
Hot stone massage therapy melts away tension, eases muscle stiffness and increases circulation and metabolism. Each 1 ½ -hour hot stone massage therapy session promotes deeper muscle relaxation through a customized massage with smooth, water-heated basalt stones. the use of hot stones which offers enhanced benefits.
The premise behind hot stone massage therapy is that the direct heat of the stones relaxes muscles, allowing the therapist access to their deeper muscle layers. Combining hot stone techniques with a full body massage provides a very healing and effective experience. The hot stones also expand blood vessels, which encourages blood flow throughout the body. The hot stones have a sedative effect that can relieve chronic pain, reduce stress and promote deep relaxation.

Swedish massage therapy is typically the type of massage therapy that comes to mind when most people think about massage. It is the best-known type of bodywork performed today. One of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body; another is to improve circulation. This is accomplished by massaging the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart with a smooth rhythmic flow. My Therapeutic Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation and circulation. I combine some Deep Tissue techniques with some Swedish massage techniques to reduce tensions, increase range motion and work trigger points. This treatment is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving flexibility while easing tension, and resolving long painful symptoms of trigger points.
A study conducted by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and published in The New York Times, found that volunteers who received a 45-minute Swedish massage experienced significant decreases in levels of the stress hormone cortisol, as well as arginine vasopressin- a hormone that can lead to increases in cortisol. Volunteers also had increases in the number of lymphocytes, white blood cells that are part of the immune system, and a boost in the immune cells that may help fight colds and the flu.
Some Therapeutic Swedish Massage Techniques you can expect during your session include circular pressure applied by the hands, fingers and palms, firm kneading, forearm glides, bending and stretching. Before and during your Swedish massage session, communication is encouraged so that your massage is customized to your specific needs.
